Mattress Measurements - Know What Size You Need Before You Buy

Before you begin to shop for a new mattress you may have to do some measuring to find out exactly what kind of space you are working with. Mattress measurements are an important factor when buying a bed. Sure, everyone might love to have a king sized bed but that certainly does not mean it will fit in your room. Sometimes a king sized bed will fit, if you put all of your other furniture in the closet but you normally would not want to do that. Mattress measurements are fairly standard with very little variation.

Toddler Bed Mattress

Standard twins are usually 39x75, twin XL which is extra long is normally 39x80, and full size beds are just about 54x75. Notice the patter, unless you get a special XL mattress it is likely that your mattress will measure 75 inches in length, which is standard. Extra length might not be required if you are 6 foot tall or under, however if you are over 6 feet, plan on your feet hanging off of the bed unless you advance to the XL size.

Toddler Bed Mattress

Queen size beds are 60x80 so you do get an extra 5 inches there which means that you are comfortably safe if you are under 6 ½ feet tall. The majority of people are so there is a bit more safety in that measure. Now for the king size beds, a standard king is 78x80 but a California King is 72x84. Now that is a bed! Minus the frame, headboard, or foot board you will have to use a 6 foot by 7 foot area just to fit the bed. That's a pretty large area, especially if you factor in a nightstand, dresser, and a chest of drawers.

You will have to have correct measurements for your mattress so when you decide to buy the linens for it; you can select the right size. Standard king size sheets will not fit on a California king nor will standard twin sheets fit on a twin XL. You have to measure the thickness of the mattress as well as the length and width. If you do not then when you buy comforters and other accessories, they cover the mattress and hang down low enough. Many times the mattress measurements are converted into metrics which can be a bit intimidating but really are not that difficult. 1 inch = 2.54centimeters, 1 foot = 30.48 centimeters, and 1 meter = 39.37 inches. There is a little something for you to work with when you are measuring your mattresses.

The Queen Mattress - Learn How to Make a Smart Purchase

Looking to buy a queen mattress? Easy enough, you would think... not so quickly. Buying a mattress is not a simple feat at least not any more. With mattress retailers popping up every day, the consumer doesn't know where to start anymore. Plus every mattress is going to be on sale, most of the time. Sure you've seen the blaring "MATTRESSES ON SALE!!!" sale signs every day, how can you miss them? In this maddening industry, where do you begin when all you want is to go to one store, buy one simple queen mattress and then go home?

Toddler Bed Mattress

One wonders why this industry gotten so crazy when the mattresses are not cheap to begin with. Cheap would be anything selling below and probably not worth the money anyway. Mattresses have hit the roof with prices stretching in excess of one to three thousand dollars. Furthermore, sorting through the choices for your queen mattress is another venture; ("innersprings" or "Latex foam"? "Coil count or coil type"?), why should we care really? It's obvious; mattress manufacturers are not making this purchase experience easy on us. However, you can arm yourself with knowledge of some of the basics, if you still intend on purchasing your queen size mattress.

Toddler Bed Mattress

You should especially do a little homework on your own before going into the stores, that way you'll have a firm handle on what you need. Otherwise, you stand the chance of walking away with a mattress that doesn't serve your needs at all. Start by visiting the websites of some of the major manufacturers whose mattresses you are considering. Compare differences in price and composition of the mattresses, and then visit informational sites that are not biased toward a manufacturer and start learning all you can about mattresses in general.

You may not remember everything when you go shopping for your new queen size mattress, but definitely think about the quality of the bed you are buying. Quality refers to the firmness or softness and only you can know what works. It's said that a mattress that's worth your money should keep your spine aligned while maintaining the spine's curvature. This is why it is important that you lie on the mattress to test it out before buying... you don't want it to be too soft or too hard. To tell if your mattress is too much of one or the other; too soft will cause your body to sag and too hard will make you feel extra pressure.

Make sure it is a queen mattress you need and that another would not do a better job. The queen mattress size is best for couples or for those who want that extra room to roll around while sleeping. It's not recommended that you buy a queen size mattress for a toddler or young child, notwithstanding a typical child's room would not fit a queen size bed. Bear in mind that the queen mattress size is sixty inches by eighty inches, so always make sure to measure the room before you buy.

The Peapod Portable Travel Bed Keeps Babies Comfortable and Secure

Every parent wants to assure that their precious new one is happy, healthy and always comfortable. But, in the category of comfortable travel beds for infants, parents report that comfort for the child is lacking. However, with the innovative Peapod Portable Travel Bed, new parents have a wonderful way to provide comfort for the baby, as well as a great deal of convenience for themselves.

Toddler Bed Mattress

The Peapod bed is quite different from anything else on the market in the category of portable baby beds. This unique product has a wonderful, thick, inflatable air mattress bed that luxuriously cradles the infant. As well, the miniature inflatable one lifts the baby up off of a cold, damp floor or the hard, dirty ground.

Toddler Bed Mattress

In addition to the cushy and comfortable flocked air bed that is the basis of the Peapod Portable Travel Bed, the unit also has a safety enclosure which is said to be ultra secure. With the enclosure panel zipped closed, the wind, sun and insects are blocked from irritating your child, which makes it perfect for a healthy outdoor nap.

This little inflatable air bed also provides 50% UV protection when the safety enclosure is fully zipped up. But, it is designed so that even while your child is protected by the enclosure panel, you still have full view through the mesh material.

This allows parents to always keep an eye on their baby while also knowing that they are protected and comfortable. The panel for the enclosure has easy-access zippers that can be opened quickly, even with one hand, and from almost any angle.

This product is a wonderful solution for parents who are always on the go, for families that enjoy traveling a great deal together and for overnight visits to relatives homes where proper baby furniture is not available. It is also a great solution if you are in cramped quarters and don't have room for a full-size crib in your home.

And, it is a viable option if money is a concern. This child-size air mattress bed with its full compliment of accessories including the enclosure will only set you back about at most retailers. For those on a tight budget, this could serve as your child's first bed.

Each little Peapod bed comes complete with the inflatable air bed, the sleeping enclosure, a sleeping pad, an air pump and a special carrying bag. It folds flat for storage or for packing into luggage and it takes only five minutes to assemble the unit for use. There is also a bottom pocket on the unit which hides the air mattress bed and which also keeps the mattress from shifting. The sleeping pad is removable and washable.

The maker of the Peapod Portable Travel Bed recommend that it can be used with babies up to one year old. But, in online reviews, many parents have said they continue to use it for naptime even when their children are over two years old. This innovative travel bed is an affordable solution that should be considered by any parent needing a comfortable bed to take on the road, to the park or to the beach.

Design a Dream Bedroom for Your Toddler - 5 Easy to Follow Tips

Are you thinking to move your little one from crib to toddler bed but not able to take any decision? Are you thinking what steps you need to follow to make it happen seamlessly?

Toddler Bed Mattress

When you should move your child out of crib?

Toddler Bed Mattress

1. If your child is able to climb out of her crib, you should move her to toddler bed.

2. If your child is three feet tall, you should move her out of crib.
3. You should move your child out of crib once she is eighteen months old.

5 helpful suggestions to make the transition of bed less stressful for your baby.

o Involve your child in selection of her new bed. It's best to allow her to choose new bedding with some of her favorite characters.

o Buy the new bed few weeks before the transition so that your child gets familiar with the new bed. It is advisable to put the new bed in baby's room.

o Put the baby in new bed often so that your baby gets familiar with her bed. You should put your baby in new bed for its daytime nap.

o You can use the same crib mattress for few days in new bed, which will give her more comfort.

o Always put the new bed in same position of the crib.

What kind of fabrics you should select for your baby bedding?

Percale, Flannel, Jersey, Sateen are most popular for beddings. Percale gives silk like feeling due to high thread count. Flannel is very soft and comfortable. Flannel is most useful during winter seasons. Jersey is a plain stitch knitted cloth and its elastic nature is very useful. Sateen is another popular fabric because of its softness.

To know more on this topic you should subscribe to different online magazines and browse websites for appropriate information. You should also look for quality newsletters.

Baby Furniture - What Do You Really Need?

Walking into a baby furniture store can be completely mind blowing - there's so much stuff! Most of us don't have an unlimited amount of money to spend, and if you've never had a baby before, it can be really hard to work out what's really necessary, useful, or basically a waste of time. If you're planning to set up a gift register at the store, you want to make sure the things you put on it are useful and practical. It's can all be incredibly confusing.

Toddler Bed Mattress

Let's take a look at some of the main items you're going to find in the baby store, so that you can have some idea of what baby furniture you really want or need before you even get to the store. That way you can focus on picking exactly which one you want, rather than messing about deciding whether you actually want or need it.

Toddler Bed Mattress

Baby Bassinet or Cradle

A bassinet or cradle is used from birth until around 4 months. Basically, if the baby can roll from side to side, it's time for baby to move up into a crib. Make sure the mattress fits snugly against the sides. You may even find that a padded bumper, sheets and quilt are included.
The bassinet probably falls somewhere in the middle between necessary and unnecessary. If you're on a budget, you can certainly go without one. Having said that, I loved my bassinet and wouldn't have been without it. It's so convenient to be able to move baby around. I generally let baby sleep in his own room during the day, and used a baby monitor, then at night wheeled baby's bassinet into my room. Mine could be rocked gently to help baby fall asleep, and because it was up on a stand, it was easy to life baby in and out - I was recovering from a caesarean.

So my advice would be - if you can fit a bassinet into your budget, do it. Perhaps it's an item that a few friends or family could buy for your baby shower.

Baby Crib or Cot

Some sort of secure bed for baby is definitely required. Spending a fortune buying one isn't required! You can buy cribs in a massive range of styles - with a huge range of price tags to match. Probably the main thing to look for is to make sure the crib adheres to the required safety standards. Check that the mattress fits snugly against the sides of the crib. Some other helpful features are: an adjustable base height, a couple of release mechanisms (not just one, in case baby learns how to do it!), lockable wheels, and no stickers that can be peeled off easily.

Crib Mattress

Many cribs include their own mattress, and that's probably the best option because it should fit the crib snugly. There are two types of mattress - inner spring/coil or foam. Generally, the innerspring style of mattress will last much longer, but is usually a little more expensive. It's worth buying some sort of waterproof mattress pad, to protect the mattress, but make sure it doesn't have any plastic on the side the baby will be sleeping on.

Bedding Accessories

This is an area where you can start to spend some serious dollars! It's very easy to get carried away with all the cute and gorgeous designs for baby bedding. Thankfully most cribs and bassinets use standard sizes, which makes things a little easier. One good strategy is to buy the necessary basics yourself, then put all the less necessary accessories on your baby shower gift register. Apart from the basic sheets, I've always liked to have a bumper for the top end of baby's bed - and make sure it ties on in multiple places, so more than one tie has to break before it can fall down. You should never use a pillow for baby, and even quilts or comforters aren't recommended - stick to ordinary blankets. You can also often get added extras, such as diaper stackers. Personally I've never found them of much use, but again, some of the extra might make good baby shower gifts.

Changing Table

If you're really strapped for cash, then you can probably make do with using your bed as a changing table, but if you can, this is something I highly recommend. Your back will certainly prefer it! My changing table was actually more like a set of dresser drawers, and nowadays, with the changing table part removed, it's still being used as drawers for my daughter's clothes. So it pays to think ahead and buy a changing table that's practical. Also look for safety features, such as guardrails and perhaps even safety straps. And of course it needs to be well padded! It's handy to have some sort of shelf where you can put items you're using, but personally I just put them down one end of the changing table and changed baby at the other end. Once baby got bigger, I used the top drawer.

Rocking Chair

This is definitely on the "maybe" list. A lot of women swear by them, but personally I never had one and it never bothered me in the slightest. So this is going to come down to personal preference and your budget. Having said that, you will need a comfortable chair to sit in, particularly if you're nursing your baby.

Portable Crib

This is one piece of baby furniture that got used a lot in my household! My son used to come to work with me when he was little, and I used a portable crib for his naps. It was great when I went to visit family and friends, because baby was familiar with it and happy to have a nap when the time came. I also didn't have to worry about baby rolling off someone's bed. It meant that we could go on holidays and know that baby had somewhere safe and familiar to sleep. I used mine so much that I ended up having to buy a second one when my daughter came along! It's important, though, to spend some time making sure the portable crib you choose is well constructed and safe. Make sure it can't collapse easily, particularly if baby tries to climb out. Check there are no small spaces where fingers could get trapped, and a collapsible padded base is very helpful.

High Chair

A high chair rates very close to the essential end of the scale. The good news is that you don't need one straight away, so you can put off buying it until quite a few months after baby is born. Look for an adjustable tray, restraints of some kind and perhaps even lockable rolling casters. Some models also have a reclining seat, so you can use it even when baby is still bottle feeding.

Car Seat

This is definitely essential - apart from ensuring your baby's safety, you're breaking the law in most places if you don't have one. Newborns must travel in the back seat of the car, facing the rear. Once baby is older, usually closer to 1 year old, you can place baby in a forward facing car seat. When your child is older again, anywhere from 2 years upwards depending on their size, you can change over to a booster seat.
The major decision you'll have here is whether to buy separate, specially designed car seats for baby and then your toddler, or whether to buy a convertible model. Personally I always had 2 separate car seats, mostly because all the consumer safety research I'd seen suggested that a specifically designed car seat was more effective in an accident. Thankfully I never tested that theory out! Construction and safety levels are constantly improving, however, so if buying a convertible model is where your budget is, that's okay too.

Strollers

This is another baby item where there seems to be too many choices. First you have to decide which style of stroller you want, before even looking at individual brands. At some point you are going to want to transport your baby, so you will need to buy something. You need to start by having a long, hard think about what you expect your movements to be with your baby. Do you plan to take baby jogging with you? Go over rougher terrain regularly? Or will you probably only put baby in a stroller at the shops? Do you want a pram that can later be converted into a stroller?
Once you have an idea what type of things you'll need to use your stroller for, a salesperson at the baby store should be able to guide you in the right direction. You then need to think about what added features you might like - accessory bars, toy and activity bars, headrests, adjustable height, rain shields etc.
Choosing the right stroller is probably going to take you a while!

Baby Monitor

A baby monitor probably isn't necessary, but I always found it was great for peace of mind. It meant I could be off in another part of the house doing something, but still be monitoring my baby's nap. Prices vary a lot, but it's probably better to choose your monitor based on the features you're going to need, rather than price. If you're going to move around a lot, make sure your monitor is portable. Do you want batteries or mains power? Do you want video monitoring as well?

Bouncer Seat

Again, this isn't necessary, but it's very useful! Babies love to watch everything that's going on around them, and it's much easier for them if they're raised slightly from the horizontal. You can buy all sorts of fancy bouncer seats, with everything from toy bars to battery operated bouncing. I only ever had a very basic fabric bouncer, and most of the time the toy bar wasn't even attached. Both my kids loved them, and the good thing was that I always knew where they were! Very handy, particularly when I was cooking dinner. The main thing to remember is that you should NEVER place a bouncer seat on a raised surface, they should always be placed on the floor or ground.

Latex Mattress Facts and Buying Tips

Now that the cat is out of the bag on the matter of the toxicity levels of many memory foam products, there has been an increased interest in all natural latex foam products. I thought it would be nice, since I am an industry professional, to explain the differences in latex mattresses and the different types of processes used to create these alternative, specialty beds.

Toddler Bed Mattress

Origin of Latex Rubber

Toddler Bed Mattress

Brazil provided the world with the rubber tree, Hevea Brasiliensis. In 1876 the British government exported seedlings to London for further development. From there seedlings were exported to Sri Lanka and Indonesia where they thrived and the tapping technique was discovered. Over the next several decades the British in Sri Lanka and the Dutch in Indonesia cleared vast amounts of rain forest to create the rubber tree plantations of today.

What is Latex?

By definition, latex is a rubber particle suspended in water. There are 2 types; NR or natural rubber and SBR (styrene butadiene rubber) or man made latex. All latex is either a blend of the two or 100% natural latex.

What is the difference between Talalay latex and Dunlop processed latex?

The Talalay process is a highly controlled, sophisticated latex manufacturing process that produces the highest quality, most consistent latex available in the world. The Dunlop process is the most commonly used production method globally. It creates a firmer product that is most often used as a base core component.

The major difference between the two processes is what happens in the mold just prior to the initial latex curing stage. In the Talalay process, only a small amount of latex compound is poured into the mold. Air is extracted to perfectly distribute the foamed liquid inside the mold and to create a consistent round, open cell structure. The mattress core is flash frozen to lock the cell structure in place and to prevent the particles from settling.

In the Dunlop process, the molds are filled to the rim, air is not extracted, and there is no freeze stage. Therefore, the latex cell structure is less "airy". This process produces a heavier product. Gravity takes over settling the particles to create a more dense product than than the Talalay process. Talalay latex is available in a much wider firmness range so it can provide enhanced comfort choice for consumers around the the globe.

What are the benefits of latex mattresses?

Latex foam mattresses instantly conform to each unique contour of your body for exceptional, orthopedic support and pressure relief. They are proven to provide 33% more pressure relief and contouring support than memory foam. One thing I notice when laying on memory foam is that I feel like I'm being swallowed up and it's difficult to move from your back to your side. It's like rolling up hill. I also perspire much more than normal when laying on memory foam. My issues seem to be widespread among other memory foam users. Those issues simply do not apply to latex foam mattresses.

The gentle, conforming support of latex foam reduces high pressure areas that shut off capillary blood flow causing a person to toss and turn. This alleviates pressure and helps bring oxygen and nutrients to your muscles, so you awake feeling recharged and renewed.

Latex beds are naturally healthy. They are anti-microbial and dust-mite resistant to alleviate allergies. They have enhanced breathability and provide resistance to heat and moisture. Elimination of sleep disturbing motion transfers, so you rest easy even if your partner is restless. My kids often jump on my bed trying to wake me up. Unless they fall on me I don't even know they are there.

Latex foam is naturally derived and environmentally friendly. Natural latex biodegrades completely in the environment. Zero harmful chemicals are produced while manufacturing our latex foam mattresses.

Latex mattress buying tips

As a latex mattress manufacturer I would hope that you would buy one from our factory but if you are at all worried about buying something site unseen then here are my top latex mattress buying tips.

1. Talalay latex is the best whether all natural or blend.

2. Watch out for pillow tops! I will never understand why a manufacturer would compromise the integrity of latex by layering materials of much lower quality on top. This will cause body impressions. Not in the latex itself, but in the pillow top.

3. Choose firmness carefully. Many retailers will only offer one firmness. The heavier you are, the firmer you need and visa versa. We offer 4 firmness levels to choose from.

4. Latex mattresses do not need to be more than 10" thick. Anything more is over-kill and unnecessary materials designed for aesthetics, not functionality. Besides, it adds more weight to an already extremely heavy mattress.

5. Demand to know what's inside. Many manufacturers will put memory foam, poly-foam and other fillers than can be toxic inside the mattress.

6. The more expensive the better, right? Wrong. Many latex mattresses that are just now approaching 40 years in service are finally being replaced. Their simple design was what gave them their durability. If someone tries to sell you a 12" latex mattress ask "how much of that is actual latex"? Most mattress salespersons probably don't even know, or they will just guess. It is important to have as little other materials on top of the latex as possible. This will give your mattress increased durability.

7. Buy from someone who knows latex. Terminology, ILD's, processes, etc. This way you know your dealing with someone can help you determine what's best for your individual sleeping style.

8. Shop price. Online will always get you the best deal. You can save hundreds if not thousands by judiciously comparing prices online. If you do buy online, just make sure the company has a money back guarantee and trial period. Latex may not be for you. The less middlemen between you and the factory, the better the price.

9. Don't buy memory foam!

If you do not want to spend the money replacing your existing mattress then take a look at simply adding a latex topper over your bed. This will create a nice barrier between you and your mattress and help with allergies, dust mites, mold, etc. Go one step farther and add a couple of latex pillows too. Start your journey towards healthier living today.

Latex Mattress

Wake up refreshed and ready for your day when you sleep on a latex mattress. Europe has embraced the latex mattresses for many years and Americans are finally joining the bandwagon of a great night's sleep and the benefits of latex. Care in selecting your new mattress is easy once you understand the qualities to look for.

Toddler Bed Mattress

There are two different ways of latex preparation for mattresses, Talalay and Dunlop. Each preparation has unique properties of their own and personal preference can determine which is the best for you. You can also choose a natural botanical latex mattress or a combination synthetic and natural for your bed. There is a modest price difference for a botanical mattress and that may be a factor in your decision.

Toddler Bed Mattress

When harvesting the rubber it is tapped, much like syrup is for maple syrup. It is then processed and air is whipped into the milky rubber creating foam that is poured into a mattress template. The Talalay procedure extracts the air and flash freezes the mattress. Without getting too technical, the freezing creates open cells in the latex that makes it have a little more spring back to it. The Dunlop procedure does not remove the air and lets the foam cure naturally this mattress is much denser.

Botanical latex naturally has antibacterial and mold resistant qualities to it. It is also hypoallergenic so in a time when research is abundant about dust mite and other allergies that affect the sleep, this seems like an obvious choice. The mattress is cleaned to remove any impurities from the processing and the smell associated with latex. There may be a slight latex smell when you first receive your mattress, but that will dissipate. When choosing your mattress make sure to choose a removal cover for cleaning and that the cover is also an eco-product.

Synthetic latex is made from petroleum based products that when combined with natural latex offers a stiffer firmer mattress. The advantages of the combination of materials critics say offer a firmer more stable core to the mattress. Other critics say it all boils down to cost. The mattresses are cheaper and more cost effective and offer some of the same properties as the all natural product.

When choosing your latex mattress remember that botanical latex is a renewable resource. That means that the trees keep producing the rubber and also give back to our planet in terms of oxygen. What ever you decision, whether it be natural or a blend for your mattress, you will purchase a product that will last 30 or more years.
